Whether you’re dealing with a fracture, tendon injury, or bad sprain, our team will help guide you to the best fit and function based on your specific needs.

What is a Robo Boot?

A Robo Boot, also known as a walking boot (please consult with your specialist if you are cleared to walk / weight bear in your boot) or a medical boot, is designed to stabilize and protect the foot and ankle following injury or surgery. Unlike traditional casting, Robo Boots are adjustable, removable (when advised), and often more comfortable for day-to-day living.

At Okaped, we carry trusted products from leading manufacturers including:

  • DJO Canada
  • Breg
  • Ossur

The Robo Boot Options We Offer

We stock both tall and short Robo Boots in order to accommodate different injury types and patient needs.

Tall Robo Boots

Tall boots provide maximum support to the foot and ankle and extend higher up the lower leg. These are commonly recommended for:

  • Tibia or fibula fracture/ injuries
  • Avulsion fractures
  • Achilles tendon ruptures or tears (often with heel lifts in the boot)
  • High ankle sprains
  • Midfoot and hindfoot injuries

Our tall boot options include:

  • Aircast AirSelect Elite Walking Boot
  • Breg Genesis Full Shell Walker
  • Ossur Rebound Air Walker
  • Ossur Diabetic Rebound Walker Boot * (Specialty boot for off-loading wounds, these boots requires an 1 hr assessment which is a separate fee.)

These models offer features such as adjustable air cells, rocker soles for natural gait, and customization of padding for optimal comfort and support

Short Robo Boots

Short boots are typically used when the injury is isolated to the foot and does not require immobilization higher up the leg. These are often recommended for:

  • Forefoot injuries
  • Metatarsal injuries injuries
  • Phalanx (toe) injuries

Our short boot options include:

  • Aircast AirSelect Short Walking Boot
  • Breg Genesis Short Walker
  • Ossur Formfit Walker Boot
  • MiniTrax Pediatric Walking Boot

The MiniTrax option is specifically designed for pediatric patients, ensuring growing feet receive the support they need during recovery.

Why Booking an Appointment Is Important

Choosing the right Robo Boot is not a one-size-fits-all decision. An appointment with our team ensures:

1.    Proper Fit

Every foot, ankle, and leg is different. A boot that is too loose can reduce stability, while one that is too tight may cause discomfort or circulation issues. We ensure your boot fits correctly and supports healing.

2.    The Right Brand and Model

Each brand offers different features; air inflation, systems shell designs, liner materials, and sole construction. We help match the best option to your injury, lifestyle, and physician’s recommendations

3.    Custom Adjustments

Depending on your injury, adjustments such as heel lifts (commonly used for Achilles tendon ruptures) may be required. Our team can modify and customize your boot when needed.

4.    Education on Proper Use

Wearing your walking boot properly is critical for healing. We will show you how to:

  • Put it on and take it off correctly
  • Adjust air cells (if applicable)
  • Walk safely ( if cleared to do so) and reduce compensatory strain
