Foot Drop can arise from a nerve injury, stroke or disease process that effects the brain, muscles or nerve that controls foot motion. A foot up brace for drop foot are commonly used to assist the foot in elevating. The goal is to assist the foot and the provide just enough support so that if there is some muscle function it still can us used. These types of braces do not provide good support for unstable feet or ankles, but are “helper” braces to reduce tripping or having to hike up the leg excessively to clear the foot in the swing phase of the walking cycle.
